Check out some of the things we do in class! We are always busy learning and having fun in the process.
Calendar Math
As part of the start of the day, we go over the Calendar and tie in various math skills. We use the ActivBoard to go over October 3rd and the 27th day of school.

Centers
Every morning, the kids are working independently in centers while I meet with various guided reading groups.

These kids are "Reading/ Writing Around the Room." They pick out a pair of funny glasses to wear, a pointer, a clipboard, and a handout that tells them to look for certain words posted around the room.

At the Listening Center, the kids get to listen and read along to a book. Afterwards, they will respond to the book.

They've finished the Writing and ABC Center so they can go to their third center, LeapPad Center. Grab a favorite book and a LeapPad and you open lots of fun!

At the Making Words Center, the kids get a magnetic board, a bag of magnetic letters, stamp pad, letter stamps, a sheet of paper, and pencil. With the magnetic letters, they manipulate them to make words. When they've found one, they stamp the word onto their paper.

These kids are in the Reading Center. They find a book to read from the book bin and complete a book response. When they're finished, they can play a reading game.

He just finished listening to a book in the Listening Center and has moved on to the Map Center. This is a place to learn about maps and their terms.

She just finished the Writing Center. Now, it's time for the ABCs Center. She picks out three to five word cards and puts them in ABC order. After her partner checks her paper, she records them on the sheet.

They just finished with the Reading Center and have moved on to the Math Center. These kids are working on the activity called "Counting Jars." They have to dump out the contents of the jars onto their table, count them, draw a picture of the contents onto the paper, and record the amount.

They are in the Writing Center. They pick out stationary of choice and write. One of the girls has chosen "sticker story." She picks out a sticker to draw a picture around. Afterwards, she writes about it.

He's finished with the Making Words and Book Boxes Center so he gets to go to his third center, Puzzles Center.
Guided Reading Groups
Everyday, I meet with two to three reading groups working with students on their instructional reading level. We have a book talk with an introduction of the book, building background knowledge, and a picture walk; we review the sight words; and talk about strategies good readers use while reading. Then, they get to read the story alone and with a partner. When finished, we go over the contents of the book and other various reading skills.
