Lunch Procedures

Student Expectations
All “Panther Code” Expectations apply in the lunchroom.

  • Students will maintain an acceptable voice level (level 2).
  • Students will get everything the first time through the line. (Dessert by last 10 minutes for grades 2-4).
  • If the Talk Light turns red, the dessert counter will close. Everyone will remain seated and quiet until the light turns green again, at which time the counter will reopen.
  • Students will remain seated except to get dessert and turn in their trays.
  • Students will turn in trays quickly and respectfully.
  • Students will make sure their table area is clean before leaving.

Teacher Expectations
All “Panther Code” expectations apply in the cafeteria.

  • Teachers will send in a lunch count with morning attendance.
  • Classes will take restroom breaks and wash hands before lunch.
  • Teachers’ watches will be set with lunchroom clock so as to remain on schedule.
  • “Recess Consequence”/5-minute cards will be used as needed.
  • Collegial reminders will be shared as needed.
  • When picking up classes at the end of the lunch period, teachers will call for their own class at their assigned lunch table and dismiss them to line up. Teachers will remain in the café until their table is cleaned.

Parent Expectations

  • Servers-No Children as helpers, please! This is an important safety issue.
  • Impromptu parent/teacher conferences will not be held in the hall or lunch line, owing to distractions, lack of time, and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Parents are requested NOT to bring special lunches (from Subway, Burger House, etc.). Students should bring a lunch from home or purchase it at school. Cookies or cupcakes may be brought to share with the class during lunch for birthdays.
  • Parents are requested to model expected lunchroom behavior so as to set an example for the children.
  • In order to maintain safety and smooth traffic flow in the cafeteria, parents are asked to actively supervise preschoolers and to leave strollers or baby carriages outside.
  • A la carte desserts are not sold until after the kindergarten and first grade lunch times.
  • Parents visiting for lunch are requested to wait until the entire class is seated to ensure that every child in the class has a seat.
  • When the Talk Light turns red, students are to return to their seats and no desserts will be sold until light returns to green.
