Candace Judd has been named the new Principal of University Park Elementary. Judd comes to HPISD from Spring Creek Elementary in Richardson ISD where she has served as Principal since 2009. She previously served as the Principal and Assistant Principal of Carolyn G. Bukhair Elementary, also in Richardson, from 2004-2009.
While at Spring Creek, Judd led a high-performing school and fostered a caring and inclusive campus environment. She worked closely with her parents, PTA, faculty and staff every day to create a nurturing environment for every student.
"I am delighted to welcome Candi Judd to our leadership team," HPISD Superintendent Dr. Tom Trigg said. "Her instructional leadership combined with her experience, enthusiasm and ability to collaborate with parents and other stakeholders makes her an outstanding choice to lead University Park Elementary. I am confident that she will help UP soar to even higher heights."
Judd is committed to professional development education and has led or participated in classes for gifted and talented endorsements, autism training, professional learning communities and a new teacher academy. She also has experience as a curriculum writer. During her tenure, Spring Creek earned 5 of 6 Gold Distinctions from the state and met all four state standards.
"It is an honor to be selected as the new Principal of University Park Elementary -- a school that has a proud tradition of excellence, " Judd said. "I look forward to collaborating with the dedicated staff, engaged parents and outstanding students who make up this wonderful school."
While at Spring Creek, Judd said her top priority was to create a safe environment where students love to learn and are excited to come to school each day. She also said she worked "hand-in-hand" with the PTA on many projects, and that she looks forward to a similar relationship with the UP PTA.
"Her enthusiasm is infectious," Dr. Trigg said. "Candi has a high level of energy and is an 'all-in' leader who will be a great fit with the UP Elementary community."
Judd and her husband, Tom, live in Dallas. They have three children: Sydney, a junior at Oklahoma State University and twins Sam and Hannah, who will be seniors at J.J. Pearce High School. Judd earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas Tech. Prior to becoming a principal, she was a classroom teacher for 11 years and an instructional specialist for 2 years. She will begin transitioning to her new position at UP as soon as possible.
