About Mrs. Myers

Welcome to TAG!  I am excited to begin my fourth year as the UP TAG Specialist.  My journey in HPISD began as a Bradfield Elementary Fourth Grade teacher, and prior to that experience I taught in Plano ISD in both fourth grade and fifth grade classrooms. Graduating from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor Degree in Human Development and Family Studies and a Master Degree in Elementary Education, I quickly fell in love with extending the learning of my TAG students in the regular education classroom through differentiation practices. I followed this passion to learn more about how to challenge my students every moment of the day through the SMU Gifted/Talented Endorsement Program.  That passion has become my role at UP which is to seek to open up opportunities for a challenging learning environment every moment of every day.


This summer has been quite eventful as my family welcomed our new baby girl, Merritt.  Her big brother, Charlie, is overjoyed with his new role and proudly parades his baby sister in and out of his school.  My husband and I aren’t sleeping much yet, but we are filled with love and all the baby cuddles we can handle.


I am excited to start this school year and meet the many new faces of my school family.  Every student holds a special place in my heart and I strive to make every child feel loved and supported in the TAG classroom.  I believe this makes taking risks in learning and significant growth possible. I look forward to partnering with you to build a challenging yet supportive environment that invites your child to grasp at opportunities to make great strides in learning.

Fourth Grade TAG Math First Math Olympiad Contest: November 17th

Fourth Graders will be asked to complete 5 challenging problem solving math questions during math class to compete against other teams.  We will have one competition each month to works toward our final total as a grade level team.  We practiced one problem today that the students cannot wait to challenge their parents with tonight... To give you a heads up here is it:

Rube Goldberg's granddaughter skypes with 2nd grade and takes a look at our machine designs.  She wishes us well with our class challenge and also wishes William's older brother good luck against his Nerfgun Goldberg machine.  

RUBE GOLDBERG CHALLENGE - 2nd grade

After skyping with Rube Goldberg's granddaughter today to discuss his cartoon inventions and creative style, we learned of a world wide challenge to create a real Rube Goldberg machine.  This machine will need 12 steps to complete a simple task.  This year's simple task is to open an umbrella.  Your second grader may be asking you if they can bring some items from home next week that we can use to build our model.  So far the designs on paper are very intricate!  We will work together as one group to see if we can achieve the task!  

Nurse Huey shows the third grade class how to help someone in need using CPR.  She also showed us where the AED is located on campus while we watch her preform a monthly test to be sure it is ready at all times.  
Chest compressions should be administered at around 100 beats per minute so we sang a song to help us stay on rhythm.  
Our special guest, Nurse Huey, came to visit the third grade explorations class today!  She brought with her a few "dummies"  that needed our help!

Math Olympiads

Fourth Graders will have the opportunity to participate in a contest during math class once a month starting in November.  Practice problems and challenges will be a new part of weekly homework so that we have another opportunity to stretch our critical thinking and problem solving skills.  Looking forward to Novembers challenge!    

Parent/Teacher Book Club

The votes have been tallied and the results are in... Our book will be... Creating Innovators by Tony Wagner!  You are not too late if you would like to join.  Please email me so I can add you to the group emails.  We will meet to discuss the book at the end of January or early February.  

Thank you Rachel Kuhnel for letting us borrow your grandfather for our explorations lesson.  The different turbine designs by our second grade inventors made wind energy power light bulbs.   
It is not everyday that a Texas Tech professor comes to elementary school to discuss the innovation and design of wind turbines.  We thank you, Mr. Swift, for coming all the way from Lubbock to teach us about wind energy.
