About Mrs. Thompson
Welcome to Fourth Grade. My name is Rebecca Thompson, and I'm so excited to share this exciting year with you. This will be my twenty-eighth year of teaching and my 18th in fourth grade at University Park Elementary. In 2021, I was honored to be named University Park's Teacher of the Year. Before coming to UP, I was a teacher for one year in the Irving Independent School District where I taught sixth grade English/Language Arts. From there, I went to Richardson ISD, where I taught sixth grade for 9 years at Greenwood Hills Elementary School.
I grew up in North Dallas and graduated from Richardson High School. I attended Texas A&M University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Gig 'Em, Aggies! Whoop! I completed my master's degree in Educational Technology Leadership at Lamar University and I graduated in May 2013. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Mark, our family and friends, and my three precious Boston terrier children, Smitty, Junie B. and Penny. I also love reading, traveling, experimenting in the kitchen, and going to movies.
I cannot wait to begin the 2024-2025 school year! It is my pleasure to share my love of learning, reading, and discovery with your 4th graders. Purposeful technology, experiential learning, and hands-on activities are my passion and I think Benjamin Franklin said it best: “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I LEARN.” This is going to be a fabulous year of learning!!
