About Mrs. Myers

Welcome to TAG!  I am excited to begin my fourth year as the UP TAG Specialist.  My journey in HPISD began as a Bradfield Elementary Fourth Grade teacher, and prior to that experience I taught in Plano ISD in both fourth grade and fifth grade classrooms. Graduating from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor Degree in Human Development and Family Studies and a Master Degree in Elementary Education, I quickly fell in love with extending the learning of my TAG students in the regular education classroom through differentiation practices. I followed this passion to learn more about how to challenge my students every moment of the day through the SMU Gifted/Talented Endorsement Program.  That passion has become my role at UP which is to seek to open up opportunities for a challenging learning environment every moment of every day.

This summer has been quite eventful as my family welcomed our new baby girl, Merritt.  Her big brother, Charlie, is overjoyed with his new role and proudly parades his baby sister in and out of his school.  My husband and I aren’t sleeping much yet, but we are filled with love and all the baby cuddles we can handle.

I am excited to start this school year and meet the many new faces of my school family.  Every student holds a special place in my heart and I strive to make every child feel loved and supported in the TAG classroom.  I believe this makes taking risks in learning and significant growth possible. I look forward to partnering with you to build a challenging yet supportive environment that invites your child to grasp at opportunities to make great strides in learning.

4th Grade Explorations

This Friday, the 4th grade Explorations students will be hosting NuMinds for an in house field trip.  During our two hour class, students will participate in the following sessions:

o A demonstration of a variety of robots, which could include motion-control special effects camera systems used in Hollywood, and the latest, upgraded version of NuMi, our exclusive AI robot.

o Work in teams or on their own to build their own monster robots, using a variety of materials, technology, and creative embellishments.

o Animate and program their monster robots using block coding techniques, micro-controllers, servos, processors, and flashy lights.

The visit will be flexible and tailored to appeal to the individual interests and passions of each student. For example, pre-built robots will be made available for students who prefer to focus on coding. Or, students who are more interested in the design aspect of the project will have the opportunity to focus on that.

We will not be able to accommodate parent visitors with the space we have and all the moving parts, but I will be sure to take plenty of pictures to post on our class instagram account, uptagmyers.

Attention 2nd grade explorations parents

Please join us for the Curiosity Expedition led by 2nd grade Explorations students in the TAG classroom on May 23rd at 2:15.  Hope to see you all there!

Thank you :)

Thank you all so much for the best teacher appreciation week!  I have lost count of the thank you notes, flowers, and hugs!  I am feeling very loved and appreciated.  You all make me feel appreciated all year long so this is just an extra special week.  Thank you for the most wonderful year!

Attention 3rd Grade Explorations Parents- TOY PANEL NEEDED

Please let me know if you are available on April 17th to participate in our 3rd grade explorations Toy Panel.

When & Where: April 17th 2pm-3pm TAG Classroom

What & Who: a panel of parents/grandparents/family members taking turns showing their favorite childhood toy/game to 3rd grade Explorations students and answering questions from the group of students about the toy (you can use a picture from the internet, if you do not still own this toy)

Why: The students ask questions to investigate timeless toys and games of past decades to discover how toys reflect the environment of each decade.   If you still have a childhood game/toy that is now just a part of history, we want to see it! Even after the Toy Panel discussion, students will continue their research of toys from different decades and what impact technology or interests of different generations plays in the toy business.  Later they will use this research to guide their own toy production.

Again, thank you for showing interest in this project.  Please email me at [email protected] if you are able to participate in the 3rd grade Toy Panel on April 17th or have any other questions.

Thank you, TAG families, for the thoughtful surprise!  You really made my day with this one.  I am one lucky teacher.

FRIDAY 1/11 DEADLINE FOR MATH MENTOR/MENTEE SIGN UP!

FRIDAY DEADLINE FOR SIGN UP FOR THIS SESSION OF MATH MENTORS!!!!

Hello TAG Math parents,

I would like to start an after school opportunity to match up TAG math students with each other based on individual needs and skills.  Any given time throughout the year your child can sign up to have an opportunity to receive help as the MENTEE or provide help as the MENTOR in these once a month skill based after school meetings.  If I notice a student needs some extra guidance in the skill area, I may even reach out to you specifically to have your child attend for extra practice.  The first Math Mentors meeting will be held January 15th from 3:15-3:45 in the TAG classroom.  The skill that will be reviewed is number sense (multiplication and division review).  Please talk this over with your TAG math student and sign up!  Please note that if Mentor spots fill up your child may be asked to wait for the next opportunity as I would like a one to one ratio of Mentor/Mentees.
